Former Xtreme 2004 Commits to Cornell University (NCAA D1)
Ben Robertson, a standout defenseman on the Ashburn Xtreme 2004 birth year team from 2012-15, has commited to the Cornell Big Red to play NCAA Division I hockey starting in the fall of 2023.
Ben came through the Ashburn Ice House youth house league and was a member of the 2011-12 Ashburn Xtreme Mite Selects as a 7 year old before progressing to the Ashburn Xtreme Mite travel hockey club birth year 2004 team. Ben was the leader of many highly skilled and successful teams before leaving the Ashburn area to pursue AAA hockey options. This season, he is playing for Mount St. Charles, a prep school in Woonsocket, RI.
Cornell, a NCAA power in hockey, finished last season with a 23-2-4 record before the season was canceled due to COVID-19 concerns. Cornell finished #5 in the end of season NCAA rankings and typically has a roster littered with NHL draft picks. The Big Red play in the ECAC and have taken the 2020-21 season off for COVID-19 safety.
Ben was coached by Xtreme Hockey Director Troy MacCormick in his final season at Ashburn and remembers him fondly, “Ben was a workhorse! He played defense, rushed the puck and created offense, and was tough as nails. He played half the game and never got tired. He soaked up learning new plays and was just a great kid to coach”.
Good luck Ben, the Ashburn Xtreme is pulling for you!
