Xtreme To Join Atlantic Hockey Federation in 2021-22
ASHBURN XTREME JOINS ATLANTIC HOCKEY FEDERATION FOR 2021-22
Elite Northern Virginia hockey club joins new league
Bethesda, MD (February 16, 2021) – The Atlantic Hockey Federation (“AHF”) is pleased to announce the Ashburn Xtreme (“Ashburn”) as a new member for the 2021-22 hockey season. Ashburn joins Black Bear Sports Group, Inc., (“Black Bear”), Keith Primeau, the Montgomery Blue Devils, New Jersey Bandits, New Jersey Rockets, Hollydell Hurricanes and Team Philadelphia in the newest East Coast based Tier-II league. All Ashburn teams will participate in the AHF’s 16-game schedule plus playoffs. The AHF will drop the puck on its inaugural season in August 2021.
“We are excited to join the AHF,” said Gary Pouliot, Executive Director of Ashburn. “Ashburn has a long history of being one of the Top Tier II clubs in the region and we are excited to have the chance to continue to compete against the best organizations in the Mid-Atlantic.
“The AHF provides our players the opportunity to play the best Tier II clubs in Pennsylvania and New Jersey as a supplement to our CBHL schedule,” said Troy MacCormick, Ashburn Hockey Director. “We believe this provides the best competitive outcome for our families with the lowest possible travel expenses.”
“Ashburn perfectly rounds out the southern footprint of the AHF,” said AHF Commissioner Tim Fingerhut. “From the very beginning, they were one of a small number of clubs that we felt would be a great fit as they are a large club, participate at all age groups and levels, and are nationally competitive with many of their teams.”
“I have admired the success of Ashburn since my own kids were very young, so I am thrilled that they are joining the AHF,” said Black Bear Founder and CEO, Murry Gunty. “We now have all the clubs in the AHF that we hoped would join and believe we will provide the best Tier II experience in the country all while lowering the cost of hockey for our clubs and our families.”
